Chania prefecture

The visitor who comes in Chania for the first time is surprised by the large number of buildings and monuments on which the great history and rich culture have left their marks on.

The old town, over and around the hill of Kasteli, built on the ruins of Minoic Kydonia, surrounded partly from the Byzantine, partly from the Venetian wall and partly from the sea. The region of Chanía has fantastic beaches which many are organised for coasts bathers in combination with the exceptional hotel units which are there.

The prefecture of Chania is divided to two because of the two imperious white mountains forming two completely different natural landscapes. The section of coastal zone, with 415 km coasts, is rich and most densely-populated. The sparsely populated hinterland is one of the more genuine areas of Crete. In the majority of the mountain peaks the temperatures are below zero from December until May.

The visitor during the period of his stay has the opportunity to dispel and enjoy the history of the sites, tradition and culture while at the same time can have the genuine Cretan products and the unique hospitality
